To most Canadians it's stating the obvious now but just in case, Interac e-Transfer is a national debit-based service allowing for the direct exchange of money from one individual to another, quickly and easily through online or mobile banking. And waaaay back in 2014, our goal was to raise awareness of the service and showcase its advantages over older forms of exchange, while also demonstrating specific usage occasions.
You see, while consumers had adapted to paying regular bills online, many were still stuck in their ways when in came to using cash and cheques for more direct or personal exchanges, like paying the rent or the gardener.
Our insight was simple. Throughout history, people have used many different methods of exchange to settle debts – all of which became outmoded as society advanced.
If society was able to move on from these archaic methods of exchange, shouldn’t we do the same with cash and cheques? We needed to show consumers the folly of sticking with these antiquated forms of money exchange.
Given the potentially dry nature of the subject matter however, we decided to bring a little extra entertainment value into mix. Enter Dr. Edmund Trepasso, Doctor of Money Transferology.
Through a mix of animated and video based banners targetting online bankers, fantasy sports participants, parents of university age children, and renters, consumers were invited into his personal study at makecashandchequeshistory.com.
With the doctor as their guide, visitors were taken through tongue-in-cheek video documentaries and a collection of odd historical anecdotes, each one driving home how e-Transfer is the simpler, safer and more convenient way to exchange money.
